Scrap schemes to promote SEZ, expansion of airport: CPIML

Posted by Indian Vanguard on November 4, 2007

Puducherry (PTI): The Puducherry unit of the CPI(ML) has called upon the territorial government to scrap the schemes to promote a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) airport in Karaikal and expansion of the airport in Puducherry.

The unit secretary, in a press release, said these pleas would be projected in the form of resolutions at the party’s state level two-day conference, now underway here.

He said the government should also ensure that the land ceiling under land reforms legislation be fixed at five acres and the land ceiling act for the urban properties should fix 500 sq metres as ceiling for property.

The minimum wages should be fixed at Rs 6,500 for a worker a month.

He said that there should be a separate welfare board for workers in the unorganised sector and that the society now in existence be converted into a board.

Balasubramanian said there should be separate special plan for the Karaikal district. A legislation to earmark quota of reservation for Scheduled Tribes, minorities, Dalit Christians and Muslims should be brought in the Union Territory.

The Centre should bring Puducherry and Karaikal districts also under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme as the Union Territory has now been kept out of the programme. There should be no permission for retail trade by bigger companies.
